Situated on St. James Street, Yo-Ji’s offers a unique dining experience for the area, serving up authentic Japanese food. This means one thing…sushi. The owners and staff are keen to point out the authenticity of their product; and the evidence is plain to see.
There is a Teppanyaki Grill section where a skilled Teppanyaki chef cooks in front of you. A plastic screen protects your favourite shirt while your food is cooked and over on the Sushi Showcase a similar experience unfolds where sushi and sashimi are prepared in front of the customer. Obviously no cooking is done in the Sushi Showcase, but for those who prefer a hot meal there is a variety of excellent dishes, ranging from fillet steak and chicken to lobster.

The décor is truly stylish; straight lines of dark wood give it a chic modern feel, and the wooden chopsticks and bamboo placemats set it off nicely. There is an open and relaxed feel to the dining area, and this is complimented by the attentive and polite staff; each skilled in their own field. While seated, you should notice a laidback and yet upmarket atmosphere, and when the food arrives you are sure to be blown away by the bold colours, vivid flavours and superb presentation.
The owners are swift to inform me of the utmost freshness of their ingredients, as is to be expected in a sushi restaurant. There is often less than a day or two between fisherman and plate…a practice which goes on for each of the 363 days a year that their doors are open for.
Closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day, they are open between 11 and 3 for lunch and from 5 till late in the evenings. On Friday and Saturday they open all day, and Sunday is a late lunch service only. During these lunch hours there is a special lunchtime buffet-style menu on offer for only £6.95, ideal for those who wish to try out a restaurant which offers something very different from everyday fare, but equally delicious.
Yo-Ji’s offer a truly different dining experience, where you can just as easily eat fillet steak with a knife and fork as you can sashimi with chopsticks. Their bar is well stocked with genuine Japanese brands of whisky and vodka and they keep a worldly selection of champagnes in stock, making it ideal for that celebratory meal.
There can be no doubt that as well as having skilled staff, they also have some of the freshest and finest quality ingredients of any restaurant.
